Why vote for C. Paul Smith?

I am running for Alderman because I am prepared and willing to serve the people of the City of Frederick. I believe that my vision for the City, my experience, and my judgment make me the type of Alderman that the City wants and needs.

Vision is an essential quality that a good leader must have. He or she must look ahead, see opportunities, anticipate problems, and then plan to seize the opportunities. I have used and developed this quality in building my own business as a lawyer for over 25 years; I have used it in raising a large and happy family, and I have used it as a coach and scout master and church leader for many years.

My experience in operating a successful small business for over 25 years will be invaluable to my exercising the responsibilities of an Alderman. Planning ahead to reach goals and to overcome problems is an important key. No business can continue to thrive unless it is constantly embracing innovative strategies and technologies, and at the same time trimming programs and expenses that become out-dated or even obsolete. The good of the entire City must take precedence over the needs of individual projects. Advanced planning is the best way the City can address the need of constant reevaluation and improvement to make government more effective in meeting the needs of the citizens.

There is no substitute for the good judgment that is required of City leaders. City Aldermen are called upon to make many complicated and far-reaching decisions. Experience enables an Alderman to see the big picture and to foresee the many possible consequences of his/her actions. My extensive experience gives me many in-depth insights into the consequences as well as the causes of many actions of both organizations and individuals. The successes of my own business, of my legal represeantation, of my family, of the teams I have coached and the organizations I have led are all indicative of the sound judgment I possess.
